Dead & Buried (Original title: Dead & Buried ) is an American horror film from 1981 . Directed by Gary Sherman and written by Dan O'Bannon .

Dan Gillis is sheriff in town Potters Bluff in New England are found dead, in some comers. He is investigating the murders while his wife, Janet, a schoolteacher, regularly goes out at night.
One day, Gillis runs into a person he does not know who is seriously injured - the accident victim is obviously of supernatural origin - who escapes. The incident makes law enforcement officers suspicious. This then intensified his efforts to fathom the activities in more detail. Gillis finally has skin remnants from the accident car examined in a laboratory, which ultimately says that the tissue has been dead for a few weeks. It turns out that local undertaker William G. Dobbs invented a method of dissecting and ultimately resurrecting the dead. The entire local population consists of zombies controlled by Dobbs. In the end, the sheriff also has to realize that he was once murdered by his wife and is also a revenant.
Reviews
Jennifer Dunning wrote in the New York Times on October 10, 1981 that the film offered a "fairly standard and cynical" plot that would please most horror movie fans. The lexicon of international films wrote that the film was "a horror film based on well-known models" that appeared "questionable despite the obvious formal effort due to the speculative depiction of sadistic killing scenes" . TV Movie magazine wrote that the film was "exciting, but excessively brutal" .
