The 13th stage of the Tour de France 2007 on July 21st was 54 kilometers long and took the riders from Albi , the capital of the Tarn department , back to Albi in a loop through the southwestern Midi-Pyrénées region . It was the first of two individual time trials on the tour.

The entire time trial course was quite wavy and selective. After a slight incline with lots of waves from the start up to about race kilometer 20.5, there was a descent into the valley of the Tarn , which was followed by a flat section. After driving 33 kilometers in Rioux-dal-Bosc, the refreshment point was there. This was followed by the second 3.4 kilometer ascent to the Côte de la Bauzié , a mountain classification in the fourth category. Then we went downhill again, this time back to the starting point in Albi. The intermediate time measuring points were at race kilometers 18 in Villefranche-d'Albigeios , 35.6 at the beginning of the ascent to the Côte de la Bauzié , 38.5 at the culmination point of the Côte de la Bauzié and 49 at Point Média.

Wim Vansevenant from Predictor-Lotto , at this point 166th and last in the overall classification, 1:57:10 hours behind the leader in the overall classification, Michael Rasmussen , was the first driver to start at 10:24 . After that, all drivers followed at intervals of two minutes, with the exception of the best 25, who started at an interval of three minutes. While the German Andreas Klöden rolled onto the track as the favorite for the best time among the favorites in the overall standings at 4 p.m., Rasmussen followed as the last starter in the field at 4:18 p.m.

British rail specialist Bradley Wiggins , who set out at 11:00 a.m. , set the first guide times at the four intermediate time measurement points and at the finish . He mastered the course in a time of 1:08:48 hours and initially held the best time for almost four and a half hours. Only the Belgian Leif Hoste managed to set a similar time on the course shortly before Wiggins, 39 seconds behind. Even the time trial world champion and winner of the prologue, Fabian Cancellara , was unable to undercut the Briton’s time due to a fall and the onset of continuous rain. He disappointed with a time of 1:15:19 hours and in the end, 8:45 minutes behind the winner, he finished 107th in the daily standings. Even David Millar succeeded not improve the times he finished at the end of the day the 20th place with a time of 1:10:01 hours. Only after a long time Alexander Vinokurow managed to be the first to undercut Wiggins' best time by ten seconds at the first intermediate time measurement point. At all other measuring points, Vinokurow initially set significantly faster records and set a new record of 1:06:34 hours, which was 2:14 minutes faster than Wiggins' time.

In the meantime, the ten best drivers in the overall classification took to the track. Among these, Andreas Klöden set the fastest time at the first measuring point, which was 34 seconds slower than Vinokurows. The best pursuer Klödens was the Australian Cadel Evans , who was 23 seconds behind him. The gap between Rasmussens, Valverdes, Mayos and Sastres and Klöden had meanwhile grown to more than a minute. After Klödens crashed on the first descent, his gap to Vinokourov's time at the second measurement point doubled, while Evans was four seconds ahead of Klödens time. At the third measuring point on the Côte de la Bauzié , Evans extended the lead over Klöden to 18 seconds. At the fourth intermediate time measurement point, Evans increased the lead by a further three seconds.

The day's victory was finally secured by Alexander Vinokurow, who clearly outstripped the entire competition with a lead of 1:14 minutes over second-placed Cadel Evans. Third place was taken 1:39 minutes back by Andreas Klöden, who, together with Andrei Kaschetschkin in fourth place, completed the excellent team result of the Astana team. Among the top five drivers in the overall standings, mountain specialist Rasmussen surprisingly set the best time, 2:55 minutes behind Vinokurov, while Iban Mayo and Alejandro Valverde lost over six minutes to the day's winner.

In the overall standings, Michael Rasmussen kept the yellow jersey with one minute ahead of Cadel Evans. Behind them Alberto Contador took third place with 2:31. Contador also extended its lead in the junior competition to Linus Gerdemann . In the points classification, Tom Boonen remained at the top, as did Rasmussen in the mountain classification. After three riders placed in the top four of the day's classification, the Astana team took the lead again in the team standings in front of the Discovery Channel and Team CSC for the first time since the 5th stage , when they lost time due to the serious fall of Vinokourov .

On the rest day after the 15th stage on July 24th, it became known that Vinokourov had tested positive for foreign blood doping after his victory . As a result, the entire Astana team dropped out of the tour on the rest day.
