The 15th stage of the Tour de France 2009 on July 19th led over 207.5 km from Pontarlier to Verbier in Switzerland , a ski resort approx. 10 km east of Martigny in the upper Rhone Valley . It led past Lake Neuchâtel and Lake Geneva . It contained two intermediate sprints and six mountain classifications in the 1st, 2nd and 3rd categories.
There were significant changes in the overall rating. With an energetic final attack, Alberto Contador became the stage winner and the new bearer of the yellow jersey. He was able to leave behind the Schleck brothers Andy and Fränk as well as Lance Armstrong . The Astana team brought three drivers in the top 10 of the stage. The attack by the Saxo Bank team on the final climb was prepared by Fabian Cancellara during the stage . It is noteworthy that among the first ten riders of the day were three men from the Luxembourg cycling camp .
