The 14th stage of the Tour de France 2009 on July 18th led over 199 km from Colmar to Besançon . It contained three intermediate sprints and two mountain classifications in the 3rd category.

After the stage, Astana was very angry because Lance Armstrong's closest non-Astana friend , Columbia rider George Hincapie, missed the yellow jersey by 5 seconds because Columbia's rival team, Garmin Slipstream, made pace in the peloton. In the mass sprint , Mark Cavendish lost his nerve, pushed his rival Thor Hushovd in the fight for the green jersey, and braked him in vain to bring his start-up Mark Renshaw in front of Hushovd, because of the TV evidence, Cavendish were not only the points of the final sprint withdrawn, but also placed 141 drivers ahead of Cavendish.

incident

At kilometer 38 near Wittelsheim , a spectator died after being hit by a police motorcycle while crossing a cordoned off road. The motorcycle threw into a crowd and injured two other spectators who had to be treated in the hospital.
