Tourism is Roxette's fourth album . It's a compilation that contains live pieces and older material as well as new songs. The album is also subtitled Songs From Studios, Stages, Hotelrooms & Other Strange Places . The record was released on August 28, 1992 by EMI . Tourism reached number one in Germany and Switzerland , the first single How Do You Do! made it to second place in each of the German-speaking countries.
useful information
The album contains four live recordings, namely the songs "The Look", "It Must Have Been Love", "Things Will Never be the Same" and "Joyride". While “It Must Have Been Love” before the greatest hits album Don't Bore Us, Get to the Chorus! was not released on a Roxette album, the other three appeared on the Look Sharp! and Joyride .
Another three songs were also released earlier: "So Far Away" was included on the 1986 debut album Pearls of Passion , "Come Back (Before You Leave)" was originally the B-side of the "Joyride" single, while "Silver Blue" originally appeared as a demo version on the B-side of the single from "The Look". "Here Comes the Weekend", the eleventh song on the album, contains improvisation. The song was recorded in a hotel room using a Samsonite case instead of a drum kit.
reception
Tourism had little success in the US charts - it only reached number 117 on the Billboard 200 album chart, although around 273,000 copies were sold there. It was far more successful elsewhere, especially in Europe, where it was the best-selling album for four weeks in September 1992. When it was released, it immediately rose to number two on the British charts, stayed on the list for 17 weeks and finally received gold status from the BPI in September 1992 for over 100,000 copies sold. It also entered the charts in Sweden and reached many higher chart positions worldwide. Although its success did not match that of the previous album, Tourism sold more than six million copies worldwide.
Bryan Buss of Allmusic wrote that there were very few filler pieces on the album, it offered a good introduction to Roxette's work. The rating was three out of five stars.
