Joyride is Roxette's third studio album . It was published by EMI in March 1991 . The title track that was released first was successful in many countries and reached number one in the USA and Germany , among others . It's Roxette's best-selling album to date.

Emergence

The album was recorded from January to November 1990 at EMI Studios in Stockholm and Tits & Ass Studios in Halmstad . The title is inspired by a statement by Paul McCartney who said: "Writing songs with John Lennon was a long joyride". As a kind of subtitle, the phrase “Don't Bore Us - Get to the Chorus” is printed on the back of the record (“don't bore us, get to the chorus ”). It comes from the Brill Building in New York City , where the well-known producer and songwriter duo Leiber / Stoller worked.

The worldwide Join-the-Joyride Tour 1991/92 saw a total of 1.8 million people.

reception

Bryan Buss from Allmusic called Roxette during Joyride's time “two pop artists at the peak of their work”. Just the pieces (Do You Get) Excited? and Watercolors in the Rain stand in the way of "total success". On the website, the album was rated four and a half out of five stars and the “AMG Album Pick” award. In Rolling Stone , JD Considine wrote that a comparison with ABBA was incorrect, even if similarly gripping melodies could be heard. The music is more than "well constructed hooks " - it has a heart. Singer Fredriksson shines brightest in ballads like Watercolors in the Rain . The magazine awarded four out of five stars.
