The tourism in Namibia plays an important role in the economy of the southwest African country of Namibia . After mining , tourism is the country's second most important economic sector. More than 15.3 billion Namibian dollars were turned over , their share of GDP was 14.8 percent (as of 2014).

The supervisory authority for all providers of tourism services in Namibia as well as the country's marketing organization is the Namibia Tourism Board (NTB), which is affiliated with the Ministry of Environment and Tourism . A tourism strategy for Namibia was presented for the first time in October 2016 and is to apply until 2026. Among other things, this provides for the restructuring of the NTB.

The size of the country, its diverse landscapes, its abundance of animals and its culture and history had already made Southwest Africa an interesting travel destination in the 1950s - initially, however, above all for the neighboring South African tourists, the untouched nature and seemingly endless expanse found. In addition, Namibia was then under South African administration, so that there were no entry or residence barriers for the South Africans who were isolated at the time.

Namibia has developed international flight connections, a needs-based road network and has been an interesting travel destination again since the end of apartheid policy. German tourists usually find it very pleasant to be understood in Namibia in German. The same time zone between Germany and Namibia can also be rated as an advantage. After South Africa and Angola , Europe currently has by far the largest and still growing tourist contingent in the country.
