Tyson Strachan (born October 30, 1984 in Melfort , Saskatchewan ) is a Canadian ice hockey player who has been under contract with the Cardiff Devils from the Elite Ice Hockey League since October 2017 and plays for them in the position of defender .

Career

Tyson Strachan began his career as a hockey player with the Vernon Vipers, for which he was active in the Canadian junior league British Columbia Hockey League in the 2002/03 season . He was then selected in the NHL Entry Draft 2003 in the fifth round as a total of 137th player by the Carolina Hurricanes , for which he never played. Instead he attended Ohio State University from 2003 to 2007 , for whose ice hockey team he played parallel in the Central Collegiate Hockey Association . With his team he won the CCHA championship in 2004. Towards the end of the 2006-07 season , the defender for Carolina's farm team Albany River Rats made his professional ice hockey debut when he was on the ice in a game in the American Hockey League (AHL). From 2007 to 2011 he ran for the Peoria Rivermen in the AHL. In addition, he played a total of 67 times for their cooperation partner St. Louis Blues in the National Hockey League and in 41 games for the Las Vegas Wranglers from the ECHL .

On July 12, 2011, Strachan signed a contract as a free agent with the Florida Panthers . In the 2011/12 season , the Canadian completed a total of 17 games for the Panthers in the NHL, scoring one goal and two assists. Mostly, however, he ran for their AHL farm team San Antonio Rampage .

After he had spent the 2013/14 season with the Washington Capitals , but mainly played with the Hershey Bears in the AHL, he moved to the Buffalo Sabers in July 2014 , where he established himself in the NHL squad. After a year in Buffalo, his contract was not renewed, so he joined the Minnesota Wild as a free agent and signed a one-year contract there. After this he signed an AHL-only contract with the Rochester Americans in September 2016, and finally tried to gain a foothold in the NHL again in September 2017 with a trial contract with the Arizona Coyotes . However, this did not become a permanent commitment, so that Strachan moved to Europe for the first time in October 2017 and joined the Cardiff Devils from the Elite Ice Hockey League .
