The Union of Swiss Shortwave Amateurs ( USKA ; French Union des amateurs suisses d'ondes courtes ; Italian Unione radioamatori di onde corte svizzeri ) is a Swiss umbrella organization for the promotion of amateur radio on all frequency bands to which it is entitled and in all permitted types of transmission in Switzerland .

As was customary at the time, amateur radio began in Switzerland as "black radio" around the First World War . From July 1, 1925, it was legally possible to take the examination for a broadcasting license at the Obertelegraphen-Direktion . The first license was issued in April 1926. The first official callsigns had the prefix H9, which was replaced by HB9 before 1930.

USKA was founded in Zurich on August 4, 1929 and is a member of the International Amateur Radio Union IARU. It is divided into sections from all parts of Switzerland.

According to its own statements, in 2004 the association had around 4,000 members out of around 4,800 radio amateurs licensed in Switzerland . He publishes the HBradio magazine and operates a museum station in the Swiss Museum of Transport in Lucerne .
