history

construction

The City of Corpus Christi was commissioned from Electric Boat in 1973 and laid down there in 1979. After 19 months in dry dock, the boat was launched and, after the final equipment, was put into service in early 1983.

Missions

The first missions were followed in 1998 by a speed trip to the Mediterranean, where the City of Corpus Christi then carried out missions. In 1999 the boat took part in the UNITAS exercise , circling the South American continent. Subsequently, from March 2000, she was towed into the dry dock in the Portsmouth Naval Shipyard , where the reactor was refilled. Overhaul and modernization work was also carried out in just under 24 months. The first test drives were followed by a second layover period during which additional modernization work was carried out until mid-August. The total cost for both stages of work was approximately $ 300 million.

Subsequently, the Corpus Christi was moved to Apra Harbor on Guam , from where it regularly patrols the Pacific and Indian Oceans. From there, she took part in the Valiant Shield exercise in 2006 .

The boat was decommissioned on May 30, 2016 in Pearl Harbor .
