Ulrike Truger (born October 16, 1948 in Hartberg , Styria ) is an Austrian sculptor and lives and works in Vienna and Buchschachen in Burgenland .

Life

Truger moved to Vienna in 1951, graduated from high school , studied mathematics, and studied sculpture at the University of Applied Arts with Wander Bertoni .

In 1995 Truger bought an empty farm in Buchschachen, renovated it and expanded it with a studio.

In November 2009 she erected a monumental, 16-tonne marble sculpture called “Gigant”, a memorial for human rights, in front of the Vienna Musikverein in downtown Vienna , without any building permit . The sculptress then wanted to sell the sculpture to the City of Vienna for 250,000 euros, but the city of Vienna refused to join, despite the advocacy of various people from the cultural scene, and on January 3, 2011, issued a notice of removal. On March 1, 2011, the artist had the sculpture transported away due to the threat of costs and penalties from the municipality of Vienna.
