The Srednekolymsky District ( Russian Среднеколымский улус even район Среднеколымский , Srednekolymski rayon; Yakut Орто Халыма улууһа , Orto Chalyma uluuha ) is one of 34 Ulusse ( Rajons ) of the Republic of Sakha (Yakutia) in the north of the Russian Federal District Far East . It lies north of the Arctic Circle in the north-east of the republic inland, south of Nizhnekolymski ulus and north of Werchnekolymski ulus . To the east it borders on the Chukchi Autonomous Okrug and Magadan Oblast . The names of the Ulus and its administrative center Srednekolymsk refer to the location on the middle reaches of the Kolyma (Russian Srednjaja Kolyma ).

The course of the Kolyma river and the area on its left, i.e. north-western bank, is flat and belongs to the East Siberian lowlands . To the right, i.e. southeast of the river, the land is hilly and belongs to the Jukagiren plateau .
Most of the vegetation consists of tundra .
