However, marked by the last few years, he can no longer build on his old successes. He falls in love with Cynthia Applewhite and marries her. They have a daughter. Tormented by nightmares about Bird , his Japanese tormentor Mutsuhiro Watanabe , he takes refuge in alcohol. Just before it threatens to break, Louis attends a lecture by the preacher Billy Graham . Then he finds faith. This belief strengthens him to fly to Japan. Here he meets Japanese camp guards whom he can forgive.

Background information

Although the film is a sequel to Unbroken , it is still an independent film production. On the one hand, it was produced by a different production company and thus by a different team, and on the other hand, it was also produced with new actors. The producers asked Jack O'Connell and Alex Russell , the Zamperini brothers Louis and Pete of the first part, both had to cancel due to scheduling problems. Samuel Hunt and Bobby Campo received the roles. The Japanese Miyavi , who was seen in the first part as the Japanese warehouse supervisor Watanabe, was replaced by the Danish-Japanese actor David Sakurai. The only crossover are Vincenzo Amato and Maddalena Ischiale , who had already embodied Louis Zamperini's parents in Unbroken .

Will Graham is not only an evangelical preacher himself, but also the grandson of Billy Graham, whom he embodies in the film.
