The place is located in the southern Odenwald in the Geo-Naturpark Bergstrasse-Odenwald am Hinterbach . State road 3119 runs through the village .

history

Ober-Finkenbach was first mentioned in a document in 1347. In 1939 the village had a total of 482 inhabitants and belonged to the district of Erbach .

Originally, today's place consisted of Ober- and Unter-Finkenbach. It was not until July 1, 1949 that the towns merged.

On July 1, 1971, as part of the regional reform in Hesse, the voluntary incorporation into Rothenberg took place , which in turn formed the town of Oberzent on January 1, 2018 with other communities. Finkenbach has been part of Oberzent since then.

In 2002, Finkenbach was recognized as a funding priority in the Hessian village renewal program.

The place is known nationwide for the Finkenbach Festival , which has been attracting thousands of rock music fans to the Odenwald almost every year since 1977 in July or August . The festival was founded by Mani Neumeier with his band Guru Guru and the Finkenbacher fire department. Today's host is FC Finkenbachtal 1946 eV

Finkenbach has nine cultural monuments , in addition to the Huben-Hof and the Johanns-Mühle, the so-called Armbruststein , first mentioned in 1518:
