Location of the lower mill (bold) in the Iphöfer municipality

The Untere Mühle (also Plankenmühle , Vöttingersmühle , Gößweinsmühle ) is a wasteland in the area of the Iphöfer district of Hellmitzheim in the Lower Franconian district of Kitzingen .

Geographical location

The Untere Mühle is located relatively centrally in the Iphöfer municipality on the Zettelbach tributary of Kirchbach. In the north, the Nuremberg – Würzburg railway line passes the mill. Hellmitzheim can be found northeast. At the Zettelbach there is also the Obere Dorfmühle , which helped shape the name of the Lower Mill due to its location on the brook. The Hohlbrunnermühle is located in the south , while the district of Mönchsondheim begins in the west .

history

The mill got its name from the location on the Kirchbach stream. It is located further downstream from Hellmitzheim. The mill was first mentioned in 1686. At that time, fields were described as “bey der Untern mühl”. The complex was mentioned again in the 18th century. Before 1723, for example, it was given the name "Gemeinschaftmühl". However, this was a mistake, because the mill of the community was the upper village mill.

In 1833 it appeared in the sources as "the lower or plank mill" . The Plank family received the mill in 1799 when Georg Willfahrt sold it. In 1834 the widow Anna Maria Plank owned the grain mill . In 1864 the facility was again called "lower mill". The granddaughter of Anna Maria Plank married a miller Gößwein in the 19th century, whereupon the name changed again in linguistic usage. In the 20th century the mill was sometimes named after the owner at the time, Vöttinger.

Attractions

The old mill has largely been preserved today. It is classified as an architectural monument by the Bavarian State Office for the Preservation of Monuments . The mill house forms the center of the facility. It is a two-storey mansard half - hipped roof building . The quarry stone masonry was plastered and a half-timbered gable was attached. The mill was built in 1789. An outbuilding can be attributed to the 18th and 19th centuries.
