The village can be reached from the center of Altenfelden via Rohrbacher Straße (B 127) and the hamlet of Starling and the village of Oberfeuchtenbach or via Veldenstraße (L 1518) and Neufelden and the village of Langhalsen . Neighboring towns of Unterfeuchtenbach are Pürnstein in the northeast, Steingrub in the east, Erdmannsdorf and Plankenberg in the southeast, Neufelden in the south (all of Neufelden and Unterfeuchtenbach separated by the Große Mühl), Langhalsen in the south, Freileben in the west, Fraunschlag and Starling in the northwest and Oberfeuchtenbach in the North.

Unterfeuchtenbach is surrounded by agricultural areas, with a larger forest area in the west and south-west that forms the border to Fraunschlag, Freileben and Altenfelden. In the south, the village extends to the municipal boundary of Neufelden, in the south and east to the Große Mühl. Unterfeuchtenbach consists of a dozen house numbers that form a kind of center of the village around some farms and a group of half a dozen houses on the border with Neufelden. In addition, there are also individual houses scattered near or on the Große Mühl. A total of 21 buildings were counted for Unterfeuchtenbach in 2001, with 18 buildings having a main residence and 28 apartments or 23 households.

History and population

Feuchtenbach was first mentioned in a document in 1140. Feuchtenbach could have originated together with the church in Altenfelden between 1100 and 1200. The place name is derived from a stream with "Feichten" (spruce).

In 1788 there were 12 houses in Unterfeuchtenbach. In 1869, 73 people lived here in 14 houses. By 1910 the population increased slightly, with 89 inhabitants in 15 houses in that year. The population of the settlement called a village was exclusively Catholic. In 1923 the population was 85 people, with the number of buildings remaining the same. However, the statistics differentiated between the group of six houses with 41 residents and a single farm with 11 residents. In 1951, 88 people lived in 13 houses in Unterfeuchtenbach, a distinction being made between the hamlet of Unterfeuchtenbach with 853 inhabitants in seven houses and the scattered settlement of six houses with 28 inhabitants. These numbers also changed until 1971, with Unterfeuchtenbach having 84 residents and 14 buildings that year. There were 50 residents and eight houses in the hamlet and 34 residents with six houses in the scattered settlement. After that, the population began to decline. In 1981 there were 68 residents in Unterfeuchtenbach, with the hamlet comprising ten buildings with 43 residents and the scattered settlement nine buildings with 25 residents. After the number of residents had recovered again in 1991 to 82 in 21 houses, the population then fell to 66 in 2001 in 21 houses, in 2011 there were only 60 inhabitants.

Buildings

In Unterfeuchtenbach, next to house no. 2, there is a baroque Trinity column which was marked with the year 1706 and was renovated in 1722 and 1848 respectively. The Trinity column consists of a high rectangular base, a Tuscan column and a figurative mercy seat. There is also a broad pillar in front of house number 4, which is marked with the year 1847 .
