history
The first mention of a Chessaha that Unterkessach or to the municipality Schoental belonging Oberkessach could be found in a document of King Otto II. Of 15 November 976, the Mosbach Abbey along with 23 villages in their possession the Wormser bishop's church gave. In 1289 Niderenkessach was mentioned. The place was under the rule of the Berlichingen-Rosseriet and -Rossach , who belonged to the knight canton of Odenwald . The feudal sovereignty lay half with Würzburg , half with the Lords of Weinsberg , but was forgotten before the end of the Middle Ages.
In 1806, Unterkessach came to the Kingdom of Württemberg and was assigned to the Upper Office of Neckarsulm . On May 1, 1846, the place was transferred to the Grand Duchy of Baden through a state treaty (concluded in 1843) that ended the condominium of Widdern and first came to the district office of Adelsheim , then in 1936 to the district office of Buchen , which later became the district of Buchen . On September 1, 1971, Unterkessach was incorporated into Widdern and changed from the (formerly Baden) district of Buchen to the (formerly Württemberg) district of Heilbronn .

Religions
In Unterkessach there is an own Protestant parish, originally a branch parish of Bieringen . Through the local rule, the parish was Lutheran and in 1652 united with the parish of Widdern. After the transition to Baden, Unterkessach came to the parish of Leibenstadt of the Baden regional church in 1847 . With effect from January 1, 2000, the parish changed to the Württemberg regional church . The Catholics of Lower Saxony are looked after from Adelsheim .
coat of arms
The blazon of the Unterkessach coat of arms reads: In a divided shield split at the top, a red crowned silver lion turned to the left, in front in blue, a sloping beam in black in black, and two golden fish on top of each other in blue.
It is not known whether Unterkessach had a coat of arms or a seal before 1806. After the transition to Württemberg, the community carried a seal with the Württemberg deer sticks . With the move to Baden after 1846, the seal also changed, it now showed two fish swimming to the right, which symbolized the Kessach, under the letters UK .
Around 1900 the General State Archives in Karlsruhe designed a new village coat of arms. The implemented proposal from March 1905 combined the previous seal image of the fish in the lower field with the Cistercian bar and the lion from the coat of arms of the Schöntal monastery , which was at times the largest landlord in Unterkessach.

The Protestant church, a baroque hall church , was built between 1738 and 1742 as a successor to a St. George's chapel mentioned in 1425.
