history

The first documentary mention was in 1250, when Irving von Kunstadt donated five talents from “Langenstat” to the convent of the Langheim monastery for his soul's salvation.

A small tower castle was first mentioned in 1433, which was owned by the von Langenstadt family as a Bamberg fief. After the expansion with a dwelling, Matthes Schenk von Siemau took over the facility in 1461 . In 1502 the manor came into the possession of the von Redwitz -Unterlangenstadt family. In 1849/1857 Karl Freiherr von Redwitz sold the property to the Barons von Künsberg .

In 1818 Unterlangenstadt belonged to the Obermainkreis . In 1840 the place had 404 inhabitants. In 1862 the village was incorporated into the newly created Bavarian district office of Kronach . In 1871 Unterlangenstadt had 436 inhabitants, of which 115 were Catholics and 321 Protestants, and 67 residential buildings. In 1888 the choral society Liederhort was founded. On July 17, 1893, the volunteer fire brigade was founded.

In 1900 the rural community Unterlangenstadt comprised an area of 390.11 hectares, 403 inhabitants, of whom 103 were Catholic and 300 were Protestant, and 68 residential buildings. The Catholic parish was in Graitz , 3.0 kilometers away , the Protestant parish in Burkersdorf, 5.0 kilometers away . A Catholic school was located in the village, the Protestant school in Redwitz, 2.0 kilometers away, which belonged to the Lichtenfels office. In 1925 458 people, 140 Catholics and 318 Protestants, lived in 80 residential buildings in the village. 1950 the place had 623 inhabitants and 95 residential buildings.

In 1970 Unterlangenstadt had 573 inhabitants and in 1987 497 inhabitants as well as 147 residential buildings with 195 apartments. During the regional reform on July 1, 1972, Unterlangenstadt from the Kronach district was added to the Lichtenfels district. On April 1, 1975, it was incorporated into the Redwitz an der Rodach community.

Christ Church

On January 28, 1990, 66 residents founded the chapel building association. The groundbreaking ceremony for the ecumenical Christ Church followed on November 9, 1996 on the forecourt of the new school. The foundation stone was laid on May 4, 1997, the topping-out ceremony on September 13, 1997. The consecration of the new church followed on August 27, 2000. The construction costs of 380,000 DM were financed by donations. Because no denomination took over the sponsorship of the Christ Church, the maintenance is done by the chapel building association.

The castle is a two-storey, plastered saddle roof building with two to seven window axes. To the north of the building is a sandstone balustrade with a pillar gate from the 18th century. The stones of the enclosure probably come from Klosterlangheim , from various balustrades that were brought to Unterlangenstadt after 1803 in the course of the secularization and served as the enclosure of the "palace complex" that formerly stood at this point. On October 31, 1951, the roof structure burned . The building was then completely renovated. Only the surrounding walls of the ground floor have survived from the late medieval construction.
