The county of Võru ( Estonian : Võru maakond or Võrumaa , Võro : Võro maakund or Võromaa ) is a district (maakond) in the southeast of Estonia .
geography
It is located in the extreme south of Estonia and borders to the north with the districts of Valga and Põlva . In the south it forms the state border with Latvia .
politics
According to a law of December 13, 1995, the governor is appointed in coordination with the local government on the proposal of the Prime Minister.
governor
The governor directs the business of the district administration, represents the interests of the state and is supposed to ensure a balanced development of the district. He coordinates the cooperation of the regional branches of the ministries and other administrative authorities and the local government. He is also responsible for the distribution and use of state assets in the district, approves the planned budgets of the state authorities and monitors compliance with them.
He supervises the work of the municipalities in the district and represents the district in court.
The governor is accountable to the government of the Republic of Estonia for his activities.
