Völkershain is a district of the municipality Knüllwald in the north Hessian Schwalm-Eder district .
Geographical location
Völkershain is located in the northern part of the Knüllgebirge southwest of the Exberg ( 510.3 m above sea level ). To the east, the village is touched by the Efze , directly below the Breitenbach confluence . The federal motorway 7 runs across the stream .
In the district of Völkershain there are also the Immenhorst settlement, which was laid out in 1971, and the Basfeld farm, which was already known in the Middle Ages .
history
The village was first mentioned in writing in a document from 1462. The spelling of the place name changed several times over the centuries: Volkershain (1462), Volckershain (1575/85), Volckersheim (1603), Volckershausen (1611) and Völkershagen (1780) ). The village church was built in 1575.
On December 31, 1971, Völkershain was merged with eight other communities to form the new community of Knüllwald.

On September 11, 1968, the municipality of Völkershain in what was then the Fritzlar-Homberg district was awarded a coat of arms with the following blazon : In gold, a black bird's leg with a claw, with a red cut, a stylized flower with a red calyx in the black shield base.
