Valezim is a town and municipality in Portugal .

history

There was a Castro culture settlement here, but very little remains of it. Possibly lasted around 150 BC. Chr. Viriathus here occasionally, in the fight of the Lusitans against the advancing Romans . They probably called the place Vellcinus or Vallecinus (about "small valley"), from which the current name developed.

The present place was only created during the medieval Reconquista . Valezim received its first town charter in 1201, which was confirmed and renewed in 1514 by King D. Manuel I. He made Valezim at the same time a small administrative town ( Vila ) and the seat of a district. In the course of the administrative reforms after the Liberal Revolution of 1822 and the Miguelistenkrieg that followed in 1834 , the Valezim district was dissolved in 1836 and Loriga was incorporated . Since its dissolution in 1855, Valezim belongs to Seia.

A textile industry has been developing here since the beginning of the 19th century, based on local wool production. In the second half of the 19th century, however, it steadily lost its importance as technologically advanced companies emerged in other parts of the region.
