history

The Roman Bridge in Sandomil

The presence of the Romans is evidenced by a preserved bridge and a fountain. Today's place was probably created in the course of the new settlements after the medieval Reconquista . The exact date of the first city rights from the 10th century by Urraca Fernandes , Queen of León , has not been preserved. King D. Manuel I gave Sandomil new city rights in 1514. The place remained the seat of an independent district until 1852, according to other sources in 1855.

Attractions

The Rio Alva flows through the municipality. Some river beaches invite you to swim, various water mills and viewpoints are also to be mentioned.
