Vila Cova à Coelheira (often just Vila Cova for short ) is a town and municipality in Portugal . Some rivers and streams in the municipality offer bathing opportunities at river swimming pools, especially on the Rio Alva .

history

Some finds point to a prehistoric settlement. The Romans left a Roman bridge here . The present-day location probably emerged during the medieval Reconquista . The earliest documented mention of the place dates back to 1138. City rights of the town was granted in the first half of the 16th century (1514 or 1519) by King D. Manuel I .

Vila Cova à Coelheira remained the seat of a district until the administrative reforms after the Liberal Revolution in 1822 and the following Miguelistenkrieg in 1834. It then belonged to Sandomil , until this district was dissolved in 1855 and Seia was incorporated.
