Giubiasco is located in the Magadino plain between Sant'Antonino and Bellinzona on the through road and the A2 motorway . The Gotthard railway line Bellinzona – Lugano runs through the community, and the Giubiasco train station is also the starting point for the railway line to Locarno , from which the line to Luino branches off. The community consists of the hamlets Lôro, Motti and Sasso Piatto on the plain and Palasio and Pedevilla on the slope.

The Piazza Grande Giubiascos lies at an altitude of 237  m above sea level. M. , the highest point is Sasso Terriccio with 590  m above sea level. M. , the deepest is Mondetta at 208  m above sea level. M.

history

In 1186 the village was mentioned as apud Cibiascum, in 1195 as de Zibiassco . The place name is probably an adjectival derivation from a Latin personal name such as Iovius, Iobius and thus denotes the property of a former owner.

The necropolis , discovered in 1900, is famous and contains 565 graves from the late Bronze Age (11th century BC) to the Roman Empire (up to the 2nd century AD).

In 1186 Friedrich Barbarossa in Giubiasco granted the liberty privilege for the Locarno landscape . Medieval Giubiasco belonged to the county (lordship) of Bellinzona and shared the history of this city; look there.

On April 2, 2017, Giubiasco joined the municipality of Bellinzona at the same time as the municipalities of Camorino , Claro , Gnosca , Gorduno , Gudo , Moleno , Monte Carasso , Pianezzo , Preonzo , Sant'Antonio and Sementina .
