Vallentuna is a municipality ( Swedish kommun ) in the Swedish province of Stockholm County and the historic province of Uppland . The main town of the municipality is Vallentuna .
Geography and nature
The municipality is located about 25 km north of Stockholm and represents a mixture of forest and arable land, which is interrupted by small bodies of water and settlements. The nature reserve Angarnssjöängen , in which over 200 species of birds have been observed, is classified as a national interest .
history
During the administrative reform of 1952, the 8 parishes ( socks ) located here were merged into the parishes of Vallentuna and Össeby . In a further reform in 1971, these two communities were united.
economy
The municipality's economy is characterized by a large number of small and medium-sized businesses. In terms of tourism, Vallentuna focuses on sporting activities such as horse riding, paddling, hiking and golf, for which there are many options.
For a long time the Roslagsbanan was an important factor in the development of the community, as it was used to transport products from the region. Today the trains are only used for passenger transport.
