ViacomCBS Networks International (VCNI for short) (previously: MTV Networks International, Viacom International Media Networks) is an international television network of the media company ViacomCBS . It includes MTV , Nickelodeon , Comedy Central , BET ( Black Entertainment Television ), Paramount Channel , Channel 5 (UK) , Spike (broadcaster) , VH1 , Paramount Network , COLORS and Game One . According to the company, Viacom International brands reach more than 3.4 billion cumulative television households in 180+ states and territories through more than 200 locally programmed television channels, more than 550 digital and mobile television products, in 40 languages.

history

The network emerged from the MTV Networks founded in 1984. The broadcasters structured in this network were previously owned by Warner-Amex Satellite Entertainment , a joint venture between Warner Communications and American Express . After American Express left the joint venture, Warner Communications spun off the fast-growing stations Nickelodeon and MTV as a separate public company called MTV Networks.

In 1985 Viacom bought 66 percent of the company and the remainder for $ 185,000 a year later.

In 1987, the company began operating outside the United States and founded MTV Networks Europe .

In 2005 Viacom announced that it had plans to split into two public companies. MTV Networks (like BET Networks, the Paramount film studios and the home entertainment businesses of Paramount Pictures) became a subsidiary of the spun off, "new Viacom".

Since 2011, MTV Networks has been operating as Viacom International Media Networks in all countries outside the USA. The company represents all of Viacom's international brands and companies and reports directly to Viacom. In addition, the international television stations of BET Networks and Paramount , which are also owned by Viacom, as well as several Internet platforms have been integrated into the networks. The US broadcasters and platforms are not affected by this, they have been transferred to the sister company "Viacom Media Networks".

As part of the merger of Viacom and CBS in December 2019, the company has been operating as ViacomCBS Networks International since then.
