The Württembergische B kr were the first tank locomotives of the Royal Württemberg State Railways .

The class designation B was also used for 2'B locomotives , from 1869 the 1B locomotives of the previous class D were also included here .

history

It was the first new design procured by chief engineer Heinrich von Brockmann . He dispensed with the leading bogie that had been common in passenger locomotives of the Royal Württemberg State Railways and was able to increase the friction mass from 14 tons or 19 tons to over 26 tons. The locomotive was given, for the conditions in Württemberg at the time, quite large driving wheels with 1530 millimeters and was classified as class B with the express locomotives. They had a chimney of the Prüsmann type and an external all-control system. The water tank was located between the two axles. The machines were able to achieve the expected performance without any problems. For longer distances, the supplies of 4 cubic meters of water and 1.2 tons of coal were a bit tight, which is why the locomotives were decommissioned at the beginning of the 1890s.

Constructive features

The locomotive boiler was a sheet steel boiler without a dome. It had a thin-walled collecting tube inside. The inlet pipes were on the outside. The pipe length was 3,500 mm, the grate was 1.20 m², the heating surface was 91.55 m² and the boiler overpressure was 10 bar. The machines had a long conical chimney of the Prüsmann type.

The locomotive frame was designed as an internal sheet metal frame with a water tank in between . The two-cylinder wet steam engine was designed with two cylinders arranged horizontally on the outside and valve boxes above. The drive took place on the second, rear coupling axle . The crosshead guidance system had two rails and the Allan controls were external.

The drive wheels had a diameter of 1530 mm. The front coupling axle had leaf springs over the axle bearings, the rear one a transverse leaf spring. The locomotives had a three-point linkage. The wheelbase was 2,450 mm. The screw brake acted on the drive axle from behind.
