Walther Zander
Walther Zander (born June 18, 1938 in Hamburg ; † October 28, 2007 in Drage an der Elbe ) was a German ceramist who, together with his wife, Karin Zander (born January 18, 1941 in Prenzlau , Uckermark , † October 22 2008 in Drage on the Elbe ) worked in the joint studio.
Life
Both completed their training and apprenticeship years (1958–1961) with Gustav Grimm in Hamburg, where Walther Zander opened his own studio in 1961, which he ran from 1962 together with his wife Karin. Early experiments with glazing techniques for vessels and building ceramics as well as the collaboration with architects soon led to numerous murals and reliefs that adorn Hamburg buildings to this day - mainly in the context of tenders won for art in architecture . In the field of vessel ceramics, her work focused on built-up and freely twisted stoneware and porcelain , which were fired in an electric furnace at temperatures of 1200-1300 ° C. A special fondness of Zanders was given to very thin walls the twisted shells , cans and vases as well as double Kummen with softly rounded edges grip. The pikeperch used different feldspar , crystal and clay glazes in connection with partly new glazing techniques.
