Why Ulli wanted to kill himself on Christmas Eve is a German fiction film by the Dutch director Edwin Brienen from 2005 .
action
Ulli is a lonely soul and starts a desperate search for company. But whoever he asks, his best friend Elton, his sister Bettina and even his mother Evelyn, nobody has time for him. For Ulli, a three-day search begins full of rejection and humiliation. In an act of desperation, he decides to kidnap a girl he meets on the street in order to force her to spend Christmas Eve with him.
criticism
“... little pearls of the cheerful, desperate description of human lack of relationship and inability. A film full of tragic comics, which partly touches the line of the absurd. "
“Modern update from Fassbinder. A nice present for Christmas enemies. "
“It's interesting how the film manages to sketch the all-Christmas tragedy in short, sparkling scenes. Satire and reality merge unrestrainedly to create close-ups of the society of western metropolises between loneliness, hatred and longing. Wonderfully poetic "
"The film can confidently be counted among the most entertaining German films in recent years."
