Water Polo World Championships 2009
The water polo world championships 2009 took place in the context of the swimming world championships 2009 in the Italian capital Rome from July 19th to August 1st. The total of 96 games (48 each for men and women) were played in the Foro Italico .
In the men's field, the Serbian team secured the title. She won the final against Spain 14:13 after throwing five meters. The defending champion from Croatia came in third . The German team finished sixth in the end.
The defending champion USA became the women's world champion , whose team prevailed against Canada in the final . Third place went to the Russian team. Germany reached tenth place.
