action

1979, New England: After their son Bobby is killed in a traffic accident, Anne and Paul Sacchetti decide to start a new life in the country that they hope will take some distance from previous events. Paul in particular sees this "new start" as an opportunity for his wife Anne, who has fallen into a deep depression. A cozy country house will serve as her new home, but shortly after the Sacchettis arrived, Anne had the feeling of a strange presence and believed she could feel Bobby. A little later a neighbor named Cat advises them to leave the house. The building was built in the 19th century by the Dagmars family, who ran a funeral home there. However, when it was revealed that the Dagmars had sold the deceased for burial and buried empty coffins, they were reportedly chased out of town.

Undeterred by what has been said, Anne invites her friends May and Jacob Lewis, two spiritualists, to help clear up the alleged supernatural incidents that are increasingly happening to Anne. However, both couples first go to a nearby restaurant; Harry, the Lewis' son, and his girlfriend Daniella arrive soon after at the house. A little later, after entering the building and on the way to the basement, Harry is killed by an apparition in front of Danielle. Daniella flees in horror, but ultimately dies too. When the downtown Sacchettis and Lewis are on their way home after dinner and have just left the establishment, Dave McCabe, Cat's husband, who had spoken to the Sacchettis about the house and its previous residents, kills a waitress and has an aggressive conversation with the bartender, in which he points out that there is a ritual every 30 years in which a sacrifice must be made to an evil power lingering under the Dagmar house. Otherwise the city is threatened with annihilation.

Back in the house, Jacob is able to convince Paul to hold a séance with him. It ends when the ghost Lassander Dagmar, the former master of the house, takes possession of Jacob and Paul now reports that he and his family never left the village at that time, but were murdered by its residents. Overcome by anger, Lassander's ghost drives Jacob to suicide. His wife May tries to escape, but is killed in front of the house by Dave McCabe, who has visited the site with numerous like-minded people in order to comply with the annual sacrificial rite. Meanwhile, the Sacchettis receive the voice of their son Bobby, who asks them to get to safety. Anne and Paul rush upstairs while the angry crowd enters the house to prevent Paul and Anne from escaping. In the house, they face the ghosts of the Lassander family who kill everyone until there is only Dave left. He now tries one last time to kill the Sacchettis before he is struck down by Lassander's ghost, which after Dave's death leaves the house with the other ghosts of his family members. Dazed and still thinking that her son Bobby would be there, Anne goes into the cellar, followed by Paul. Finally, Paul can be seen standing on the basement stairs and saying with a slight smile: "Hey, Bobby."

TV feature film "Thumbs to the side"

We Are Still Here - House of Horror was rated above all average, but in some cases also positive. The critics of the German program magazine TV Spielfilm say: “What begins as a stale ghost story leads to a juicy bloodbath. For die-hard fans of the genre, this is an homage to the horror cinema of the 70s and 80s, everyone else turns away in disgust. "They sum up:" A little subtle horror splatter cocktail. "

“In the first quarter of an hour in particular, director novice Geoghegan shows great staging instinct. Without many words and with often still shots, the film creates an atmosphere of alienation and anxiety. […] Washed-out colors and a carefully selected scene catapult the viewer back into the horror cinema of the late 1970s and early 1980s, to which Geoghegan obviously pays homage. [...] First of all, We Are Still Here weighs the viewer ... in safety, relies here and there on small shock moments that sometimes even fizzle out ineffectively. Well-known clichés ... are invoked without further ado and underline that the director is by no means interested in an original story. […] At the latest with a séance that gets terribly out of hand, the action takes on monstrous features, while the staging suddenly becomes much more hectic. Shaky images and lustful overacting convey… panic erupting unchecked. [Finally] the rather short film is transformed into a ruthless slaughter, the mediocre effects of which point to a manageable budget. "

- Christopher Diekhaus : kino-zeit.de

“Director Ted Geoghegan was inspired by ' Das Haus an der Friedhofsmauer ' ( The House on the Cemetery Wall) in his feature film debut and is quite open to it; [...] he proves ... that he has carefully studied his cinematic role models, mainly from the 70s and 80s, and can skillfully convert the genre experience he gained in a classic horror scenario that is independent despite all references. […] On top of that, the film rises above the usual haunted house monotony… It is also worth mentioning that 'We Are Still Here'… also offers crude splatter effects that increase continuously until the excessive finale. [...] 'We Are Still Here' [goes] to the finish line as a real haunted house highlight. "

- Volker Schönenberger : dienachtderlebendentexte.wordpress.com

“'We Are Still Here' is a declaration of love for the horror film of the 1970s, a homage to Lucio Fulci and at the same time a work that tries to function outside the usual genre patterns. So the story is a little wider than usual - or to be expected - in this type of film. Ted Geoghegan fans out and relies not only on atmospheric horror, but also on bloody craft. […] 'We Are Still Here' is refreshing in a time when horror all too often follows the same pattern, consists of remakes or just chews on well-known things. You can tell that this film is a project out of passion, which not only comes from the author and director, but has also captured the cast and crew. "

Rolling Stone magazine ranked the film seventh out of the ten best horror films of 2015.
