Werner Tian Fischer (* 1962 in Näfels as Werner Fischer ) is a Swiss musician , music teacher and historian .

biography

Fischer developed his guitar playing at the Hot Club de Jazz in Lisbon, at the Swiss Jazz School in Bern and at the Berklee College of Music in Boston. He also studied history in connection with English at the University of Zurich and graduated with a licentiate from Roger Sablonier in 1993 .

With Tom Etter ( Züri West ) he founded the internationally successful folk-pop group Starfish in the 1990s . As a live and studio musician, he works with well-known representatives of the Swiss jazz scene, e. B. with the saxophonists Bruno Spoerri and Jürg Wickihalder , or with international greats like Sophie Dunér, Alain Apaloo or Alexandre Côté. His Fischer-Wickihalder Jazz Coalition toured China in the summer of 2004. In 2007 he organized the Swiss tour of the Sam Trümpy Memorial Jazz Coalition , a transatlantic octet. He also forms the guitar duo All Standard Guitars together with Michael Giger . He has published his own compositions (with lyrics by Jan Krohn ) on several albums together with his international jazz group Travelogue .

Since 2004 he has lived and worked as a musician, music teacher and journalist in Lucerne and Beijing . In Beijing he was a member of the Big John Blues Band , the house band of the legendary CD Blues Café, from 2010 to 2011 , and taught at the Beijing Midi School of Music . For a decade he has been touring China regularly with well-known European or Chinese musicians such as Zhang Ling , the former bassist Cui Jians : Tour of Heilongjiang & Beijing 2004, Summer Olympics 2008 in Beijing (with Mya Audrey), MIDI festivals in Shanghai and Beijing 2011 (with Mya Audrey), Travelogue tours to Beijing in autumn 2011 and spring 2012, Beijing International Blues Festivals 2011, 2012, 2013 (with Shun Kikuta ) & 2014, Grammy All Stars in Chengdu 2013, Ordos World Music Carnival ( Inner Mongolia ) & Xixia Music Festivals in Zhongwei & Yinchuan ( Ningxia ) 2014 (with the Big John Blues Band).

He is part of Zhang Lings International CD Blues Band , which has Chinese and international stars like Song Zhuying , Tan Jing , Lang Lang , Diane Schuur , Patti Austin , Yolanda Adams , Jody Watley , Shawn Colvin , Rodney Crowell , Richard Marx , Leo Sayer & Michael Bolton accompanied at their concerts in China.

He has published two books on Swiss history and written several papers on the history of jazz in Switzerland. He has also published Chinese Soul , a pop novel about his experiences in China.
