Wieprz is a village and seat of the rural community of the same name in the powiat Wadowicki of the Lesser Poland Voivodeship in Poland .

Nidek is located in the Auschwitz Basin ( Kotlina Oświęcimska ).

Neighboring towns are Nidek in the northwest, Gierałtowice in the north, Frydrychowice in the northeast, Inwałd in the southeast, the city of Andrychów in the south, Bulowice in the southwest.

history

The alleged first mention in 1318 as villas militaris was probably falsified, the place was first mentioned in documents as the parish Vepres in the Peterspfennigregister of 1326 in the deanery Zator of the diocese of Krakow . The original name meant thicket , bushes , scrub .

Politically, the village originally belonged to the Duchy of Auschwitz , which existed from 1315 during the period of Polish particularism . Since 1327 consisted suzerainty of the Kingdom of Bohemia . Since 1445 it belonged to the Duchy of Zator , which was sold to Poland in 1494.

During the First Partition of Poland , Wieprz became part of the new Kingdom of Galicia and Lodomeria of the Habsburg Empire in 1772 (from 1804).

In 1918, after the end of the First World War and the collapse of the Austro-Hungarian monarchy, Wieprz came to Poland. This was only interrupted by the occupation of Poland by the Wehrmacht in World War II . It then belonged to the district of Bielitz in the administrative district of Katowice in the province of Silesia (since 1941 province of Upper Silesia ).

From 1975 to 1998 Wieprz was part of the Bielsko-Biała Voivodeship .
