Viktor Nikolajewitsch Tregubow ( Russian Виктор Николаевич Трегубов ; born April 13, 1965 in Shakhty ) is a former Soviet-Russian weightlifter and Olympic champion .

Career

Tregubov achieved a podium finish for the first time in 1986 at the Soviet championships. In the middle-heavy weight up to 90 kg, he took third place with 397.5 kg (180.0 / 217.5 kg) behind Anatoli Chrapaty and Sergei Kopytow with 400.0 kg each in a duel. In 1987 Tregubow had his first international appearance at the European Championships in Reims and was third with 405.0 kg (185.0 / 220.0 kg). The first placed Chrapaty achieved 415.0 kg ahead of the Bulgarian Rumen Teodosiev with 410.0 kg.

His next international assignment Tregubow had only again in 1991, when he at the European Championships in Władysławowo with a duel of 392.5 kg (180.0 / 212.5 kg) in the 1st heavyweight to 100 kg second behind Igor Sadykov with 405.0 kg. This competition was Tregubov's last start for the Soviet Union.

At the 1992 Olympic Games in Barcelona he competed for the United Team and was able to secure Olympic gold in the class up to 100 kg with 190 kg in snatch, 220.0 kg in jerk and a resulting duel of 410.0 kg. The runner-up Tymur Tajmasow achieved 402.5 kg, ahead of Waldemar Malak with 400.0 kg.

At his first World Cup in Melbourne in 1993, Tregubow started for Russia for the first time. With 407.5 kg (185.0 / 222.5 kg) in a duel in the newly created weight class up to 99 kg, he won gold in front of Sergei Syrzow , who also scored 407.5 kg, but was over a kilogram heavier. Since the old world records no longer existed with the introduction of the new weight classes, Tregubow's performance in pushing and dueling meant a new world record in the first heavyweight up to 100 kg.

A year later for the World Cup in Istanbul Tregubows reached 405.0 kg (185.0 / 220.0 kg) for second place after Syrzow was able to increase to 417.5 kg. This was Tregubov's last start at an international championship.
