history

First mention

The place was mentioned for the first time in a document in 1258 : "In an arbitration award - 'Großer Schied' - on the delimitation of the rights of the city of Cologne and Archbishop Konrad von Hochstaden , the mint in Wielberg is mentioned."

The spelling of the first mention was Wielberg .

Wildberg belongs to the Reichshof. This was given by Emperor Barbarossa to Bishop Rainhard von Dassel because of his crusade merits. In Wildberg there was a large silver, lead and zinc mine until 1911. The "Wildberger Taler" was minted from this silver. In the early Middle Ages, the Counts of Berg were the masters of the Reichshof and thus also of the Wildberger Grube. The mine was closed in 1911/1912 (last owned by an English company) because it became unprofitable and the mining union had to file for bankruptcy.

Wildberg lies directly on the borders with Westphalia , Rhineland-Palatinate , the administrative districts of Arnsberg, Koblenz, the districts of Altenkirchen and Olpe, the communities of Wenden (Westphalia) and Friesenhagen (Rhineland-Palatinate) and the archbishopric of Mainz and Paderborn.
