history

First mention

The first mention of the place Windfus was made in the certificate Ort in the map of Arnold Mercator from the year 1575. The spelling of this first mention was Windfuoß , which has the meaning of a place in a sheltered hollow.

Historically, the village of Windfus is embedded in the history of the former imperial court of Eckenhagen , as presented by Emperor Barbarossa, his chancellor and archbishop of Cologne, Rainald von Dassel , in 1167. From 1960, Windfus, which at that time consisted of the old town center with its ten houses, expanded considerably. Many residents from the eastern areas settled next to people from the cities of the Rhine and Ruhr in the valley at the Puhlbruch.

Local community

This laid the foundation for a functioning local community in which everyone - the old locals as well as newcomers - could contribute their enthusiasm for their homeland. This enthusiasm brought Windfus the gold plaque in the state competition Our village should be more beautiful in November 1979 .

In 1998 the local community of Windfus dissolved. Some members then founded the grill hut interest group.

Population development

Windfush has around 350 inhabitants today. A small new building area with seven single-family houses was built on the former site of the Oestreich pallet factory.

Culture and sights

Green spaces and recreation

  • Educational forest trail : The educational forest trail is intended to inform interested citizens about the plants and animals of the region using the signs that have been put up, and to make the landscape and forest accessible to visitors. The natural forest cell is worth seeing . On the occasion of the European year of nature conservation in 1970, so-called natural forest cells were selected in the state forest of the state of North Rhine-Westphalia, to which the beech forest in the Puhlbruch belongs. It is the only one in the Bergisches Land. Dead trees are no longer felled there, fallen or broken trees remain where they are. The Waldjugend Windfus played an active part in the design of this educational forest trail, which was built in 1965. In cooperation with the regional forest office Rhein-Sieg-Erft, the nature trail is continuously cleaned, supervised and supplemented. The showcases along the way are also equipped with visual aids by the forest youth. 1 kiln, 40 signs and information boards, 1 iron smelting district, 6 display cases, 11 display boards, 9 benches, 2 shelters and 2 protective mushrooms are part of the equipment. On the occasion of the 50th anniversary in 2015, a forest xylophone, a new Köhler hut and a "wilderness bank" were built. Over 500,000 guests visited the 4.5 km long nature trail during this time. At the entrance to the village there is a resting place for hikers with a protective mushroom (round seat) and play equipment. From here the circular routes A2 (5.3 km) and A6 (3.3 km) lead along the Steinaggernebenarm through beautiful mixed forests. There is also an access path to the Bergisches Panoramasteig. • Forsthaus Windfus : Old Prussian forester's house. Below this facility there is a fallow deer enclosure with a small viewing platform.
  • Nature reserve Puhlbruch / Silberkuhle : 340 hectares of the 564 hectare forest area were placed under nature protection by the district council of the Oberbergischer Kreis on June 12, 2008. With great commitment, the Waldjugend Windfus campaigned for protection over a period of four years. Slope moors, juniper heaths , spring and still waters and the natural forest cell form the most important core areas of the forest. Birds, amphibians, fish, insects, bats, mosses and lichens find suitable habitats here. Quarries and steep slopes are a habitat and retreat for rare, endangered animal and plant species. Red-backed killer , kingfisher , common frog , rough-owl , dipper are native here, such as heather , arnica , cottongrass or orchid .
  • Waldjugendheim : The Waldjugendheim Windfus (240 m²) was built in several sections by Waldjugend-members, their parents and members of the village community on a voluntary basis. It is a home for children and young people in Windfus and the surrounding area. Here they spend their free time and get involved in environmental protection. The forest youth was founded in 1963. On the occasion of the 50th anniversary in 2013, the well-known animal filmmaker and book author Andreas Kieling was a guest of the conservationists.
  • Star-Treff Windfus - Forest of the Next Generations : So far, 71 people and groups have been guests who planted a tree at the Waldjugendheim in the "Forest of the Next Generations". These included animal researchers Heinz Sielmann , Ivan Rebroff , Karlheinz Böhm , Arved Fuchs , Rudi Völler , Fritz Pleitgen , Rudolf Schock and Rüdiger Nehberg . Each planting campaign included an extensive supporting program.
