Wilhelm August von Wulffen (born November 29, 1782 in Büssow ( Friedeberg district in the Neumark ), † November 22, 1841 in Steele , today at Essen ) was a Prussian major general and commander of the 7th Landwehr Brigade.

Life

origin

He belonged to the Brandenburg noble family von Wulffen . His parents were the Prussian major general Georg Ludolf von Wulffen (1719–1792) and his wife Johanna Beate Charlotte, born von der Marwitz (* March 28, 1754; † November 2, 1805).

Military career

Wulffen occurred on December 1, 1796 as Junker in the Dragoon Regiment "Prittwitz" the Prussian army one. On April 13, 1799, he was transferred to the regiment of the Gardes du Corps as a cornet and, with his promotion to second lieutenant, from April 28, 1801, he was used as an adjutant . On August 13, 1804, Wulffen received permission to accompany Prince Louis Ferdinand of Prussia on his journey to the Austrian maneuvers. During the Fourth Coalition War he fought in the battle of Auerstedt and the skirmishes near Königsberg and Gollau .

On May 22, 1807 Wulffen was promoted to Prime Lieutenant and on May 23, 1808 to the Staff Cavalier in the Regiment Gardes du Corps. On August 30, 1809 he was transferred to the Adjutantur and as Adjutant General he came to Major General von Tauentzien with a monthly salary of forty thalers and three rations . Wulffen rose to Rittmeister on October 18, 1810 and major on November 4, 1812, and on March 5, 1813 was aggregated to the Brandenburg Uhlan Regiment (No. 3) . During the Wars of Liberation he was wounded in a battle near Goldberg and awarded the Iron Cross, 2nd class. Wulffen took part in the battles near Liegnitz and Löwenberg and was commended for Villers-Cotterets. On October 3, 1815 he was promoted to lieutenant colonel and on March 8, 1817 aggregated to the 7th Dragoons Regiment , before he was transferred to the 12th Hussar Regiment on May 11, 1816 as commander . There he was promoted to colonel on March 30, 1819 with a patent from April 17, 1819 . On August 18, 1825, he received the Service Cross and was on September 4, 1825 Knights of St John . On March 30, 1830, he was transferred to the 7th Landwehr Brigade as commander and promoted to major general on March 30, 1831. With the award of the Red Eagle Order II. Class with Oak Leaves, Wulffen received his departure on March 20, 1834 with an annual pension of 2250 thalers. On October 28, 1834 he received a bonus of 200 and on July 29, 1840 another 500 thalers. He died on November 22, 1841 in Steele near Essen.

Wulffen married Marie Luise Freiin von Wenge on May 7, 1816 in Wattenscheid (* 1798 - June 1, 1866). The couple had several children:
