William T. Redmond

William Thomas "Bill" Redmond (born January 28, 1955 in Chicago , Illinois ) is an American politician . Between 1997 and 1999 he represented the third constituency of the state of New Mexico in the US House of Representatives .

Early years

Bill Redmond attended Gage Park High School , Lincoln Christian College , Lincoln Christian Seminary in Illinois, and Murray State University in Kentucky . He was ordained a minister and as such became a member of the US Army Reserve between 1980 and 1983 . He also became a teacher and priest in Santa Fe , New Mexico. Among other things, he gave lectures at the branch of the University of New Mexico in Los Alamos .

Political career

Redmond became a member of the Republican Party and served on the party's executive board in New Mexico. In the 1996 congressional elections, he ran unsuccessfully against Bill Richardson of the Democratic Party for the US House of Representatives. However, only a few months after his election, Richardson gave up his mandate in Congress to become American Ambassador to the United Nations. Redmond was able to win the by-elections that were due by only 3000 votes ahead of his opponent Eric Serna. Redmond took his seat in the US House of Representatives on May 13, 1997 and kept it until the end of its term on January 3, 1999. In the elections of 1998 he was with 47:53 percent of the vote against Tom Udall inferior of him then replaced on January 4, 1999 in Congress.
