Albert G. Simms

Albert Gallatin Simms (born October 8, 1882 in Washington , Hempstead County , Arkansas , † December 29, 1964 in Albuquerque , New Mexico ) was an American politician . Between 1929 and 1931 he represented the first constituency of the state of New Mexico in the US House of Representatives .

Early years

Albert Simms first attended private schools and then the University of Arkansas in Fayetteville . In 1906 he moved to Monterrey , Mexico . There he worked as an accountant. In 1912 Albert Simms settled in Silver City , New Mexico. After studying law and being admitted to the bar in 1915, he began working in his new profession in Albuquerque until 1919.

Political career

Simms became a member of the Republican Party . From 1920 to 1922 he was a member of the Albuquerque City Council. At the same time he was President of the Bernalillo County Council . Simms also got into banking and became president of the National Bank in Albuquerque as well as a mortgage company. Between 1925 and 1927 he was an MP in the New Mexico House of Representatives . In 1928 he was elected to the US House of Representatives, where he succeeded John Morrow on March 4, 1929 . Since he was not re-elected in 1930, he could only hold one term in Congress until March 3, 1931 . From 1932 to 1934 Albert Simms was a member of the Republican National Committee . He then worked as a banker, farmer and rancher. He died in Albuquerque in December 1964 and was buried there.
