Tranquilino Luna

Tranquilino Luna (born February 25, 1849 in Los Lunas , Mexico , † November 20, 1892 in Peralta , New Mexico ) was an American politician . Between 1881 and 1884 he represented the New Mexico Territory as a delegate in the US House of Representatives .

Career

After elementary school , Tranquilino Luna, who was born in what is now Valencia County , attended the University of Missouri . He then became a successful rancher. Politically, he became a member of the Republican Party , whose Republican National Conventions he attended as a delegate in 1880 and 1888. At these congresses, James A. Garfield and Benjamin Harrison were nominated as the party's respective presidential candidates.

In the congressional elections of 1880 he was elected as a delegate to the US House of Representatives. There he replaced Mariano S. Otero on March 4, 1881 . In Congress , he initially completed a full legislative period until March 3, 1883. Since it was confirmed in 1882, it began a second legislative term on March 4, 1883. However, Francisco Antonio Manzanares objected to the 1882 election result , which was upheld a year later. Therefore, Luna had to give up his mandate on March 5, 1884. Between 1888 and 1892 he was sheriff in Valencia County.
