location

The cylindrically rising windmill stump built in quarry stone stands in the "Waldemeine" part of the Bad Salzufler district of Wüsten , around one kilometer south of the desert town center.

With the incorporation of Wüstens into Bad Salzuflen and the allocation of street names, the property “Unterwüsten No. 62” was given the new address “Auf der Heide 79”.

The windmill stump has an entrance to the south side, today a simple sheet metal door under a horizontal lintel and an upright rectangular window above it.

history

Johan Henrich Jungeblut had the water mill "Neue Mühle" built in Waldemeine in 1738 for 370 Reichstaler . At the end of 1866 it received a windmill as a supplement, so that the mill could also be driven by wind when the water was low. This combination is also called a wind water mill and is rarely found in Germany.

This was a technology that had already been tried and tested in the Principality of Lippe : both the Schröder oil and sawmill in Hohenhausen and the Stock grain mill in Matorf were equipped in this way. With a rotating windmill hood placed on a stone tower, the windmill blades could be placed in the wind. A wave transmitted the energy into the water mill, where the two grinding stages could then be coupled.

In terms of construction, this windmill was a so-called Erdholländer . This means that the access was at ground level and the sails of the wing cross and the operation of the codend were also carried out from the ground, so there was no gallery.

The windmill was later abandoned due to poor wind conditions. Today only the stone tower remains of the mill; the rotating, wooden cap with the winged cross is missing.

monument

In the opinion of the Westphalian Office for the Preservation of Monuments (WAfD), the windmill stump is a monument within the meaning of Section 21 of the Monument Protection Act (DSchG), and there is a public interest in its preservation and use. This is due to the fact because this former windmill was important for the districts deserts and woods My. Here she ensured the possibility of processing grain in times of scarce water.

There are scientific reasons for preservation and use. This is because this windmill stump, even in its reduced form today, has outstanding documentary value for the Westphalian windmill topography, as only five other locations remain in Westphalia-Lippe. In addition, the coexistence of a windmill and water mill of one owner can be proven at this location. This is unique in this constellation in Westphalia-Lippe.

The current owners of the windmill stump are the Bad Salzuflen public utilities .
