Winfried Mack

Winfried Erlolf Mack (* 6. August 1965 in Ellwangen ) is a German politician of the CDU . He has been a member of the state parliament of Baden-Württemberg and deputy parliamentary group chairman since 2001 .

education and profession

Winfried Mack did his Abitur at the Hariolf-Gymnasium in Ellwangen and then did his basic military service with the Panzergrenadierbataillon 303. From 1987 to 1992 he studied administrative sciences in Konstanz , graduating with a degree in administrative science .

During his student days, he was particularly influenced by the lectures given by Ralf Dahrendorf , Thomas E. Ellwein and the Swiss political scientist Leonhard Neidhart , from which he was able to benefit a lot for his political activities.

He completed his management training at the District Office Ostalbkreis, the Stuttgart Regional Council , the Ministry of Transport of Baden-Wuerttemberg , in the University of Administrative Sciences in Speyer and the Economic and Social Committee of the European Union in Brussels. In 1995 he passed the assessor exam at the Ministry of the Interior in Stuttgart. From 1995 to 2001 he worked for the State Ministry of Baden-Württemberg in the Villa Reitzenstein. There he was u. a. Head of department for fundamental questions of state politics with Prime Minister Erwin Teufel .

Political activity

Winfried Mack has been Deputy Chairman of the CDU parliamentary group in the Stuttgart state parliament since April 2011. Since 1999 he has been a member of the state executive committee of the CDU Baden-Württemberg.

From 1992 to 1997 Winfried Mack was district chairman of the Junge Union and since 1993 a member of the district board of the CDU Ostalb. In 1999 he was elected as an assessor in the CDU Baden-Württemberg State Executive.

From 1999 to 2016 he was a member of the district council of the Ostalb district . From 2006 to 2010 he was a deputy member of the Committee of the Regions of the European Union for the state of Baden-Württemberg.

In the state elections on April 10, 2001 , he entered the state parliament of Baden-Württemberg via the direct mandate in the Aalen constituency . In 2006 , 2011 and 2016 he was directly re-elected with outstanding results. From July 21, 2005 to May 2011 he was chairman of the standing committee in the state parliament.

After the election defeat of the Southwest CDU in the state elections in 2011, the then party chairman Stefan Mappus resigned from the position of state chairman of the party.

Thomas Strobl applied for his successor and shortly afterwards Mack announced his candidacy. Mack was clearly defeated by his opponent Strobl in the election of the new state chairman of the Southwest CDU.

From 2011 to 2017 he was deputy state chairman of the CDU Baden-Württemberg.

Mack was a deputy member of the investigative committee of the state parliament of Baden-Württemberg, which dealt with the EnBW affair . It became known that in his role as a deputy member of this committee he had passed on non-public information to Stefan Mappus . The Greens and the SPD criticized the fact that Mappus had exclusive knowledge by passing on this information, which hindered the committee's educational work. Mack himself admitted errors in this context, defended himself by mistakenly believing the information to be public, and resigned as a deputy member of the committee of inquiry in June 2013 due to public pressure.

Other memberships and offices

Winfried Mack is Honorary Senator of Aalen University. He is also the chairman of the state association of evening schools in Baden-Württemberg. He is a member of the board of trustees of the International Music School Academy, Kulturzentrum Schloss Kapfenburg and Aalen University . He has also been a member of the supervisory board of Baden-Württembergische Bank since 2016. He has been a member of the supervisory board of the Baden-Württemberg Foundation since 2006. He was a member of the administrative board of Kreissparkasse Ostalb from 2009 to 2014.

Publications

In July 2014 Winfried Mack published the book “Learning from the Crisis” together with the former Prime Minister Erwin Teufel . On the way to a cosmopolitan and humane society ”. The book was published by Herder Verlag and contains contributions by Heiner Geißler , Paul Kirchhof , Renate Köcher , Manfred Spitzer , Cardinal Peter Turkson and the political scientists Christoph Knill and Edgar Grande, among others

In 2018, Mack published the book "Between Openness and Isolation" as editor. It deals with the success of populist parties in Europe. It was presented in September 2018 in the Baden-Württemberg state representation in Berlin.

Family and private

Winfried Mack is married to Bettina Vierkorn-Mack and lives in Ellwangen / Jagst. He is Catholic and has three children.
