Franz Woldemar Albrecht von Trotha (born October 4, 1797 in Querfurt , † November 2, 1859 in Berlin ) was a Prussian lieutenant general .

Life

Woldemar was a son of the Saxon lieutenant colonel Wolf Heinrich von Trotha (1772–1855) and his wife Luise Friederike Karoline, née Schomburg († 1834).

Military career

Trotha visited the Knights Academy in Dresden and joined mid November 1813 the volunteer corps of volunteers Sachsen in. By the end of September 1814 he rose to prime lieutenant and took part in the summer campaign the following year .

After the war, Trotha switched to the Prussian Army and was employed on September 5, 1815 as Prime Lieutenant in the 1st Upper Saxon Landwehr Infantry Regiment. On March 18, 1816, he was aggregated to the 16th Infantry Regiment . On April 10, 1816, he was then assigned to the Halle Grenadier Landwehr Battalion and, at the end of February 1819, to the 1st Landwehr Guard Brigade. At the end of March 1821 he was transferred to the adjutantage and a year later he was promoted to captain . On March 30, 1833 Trotha became adjutant of the 14th division in Düsseldorf . On March 30, 1835, he resigned as a company commander in the 20th Infantry Regiment and took over the 1st Battalion in the 6th Landwehr Regiment as a major on March 30, 1836. On March 30, 1844, he was transferred to the 25th Infantry Regiment as battalion commander , and at the end of March 1846, he was promoted to lieutenant colonel . Trotha was initially commissioned on March 9, 1848 with the command of the 30th Infantry Regiment , on March 7, 1848 appointed regimental commander and on May 8, 1849 promoted to colonel . As such, he was appointed commander of Saarlouis on September 25, 1849 and aggregated to the 30th Infantry Regiment on October 12, 1849.

On May 4, 1850 he was then commander of the 4th Infantry Regiment and in this capacity on August 6, 1851 with the Order of the Red Eagle III. Excellent with a bow. From September 22nd to December 1st, 1851 Trotha was the commander of the 10th Infantry Brigade , then the 10th Landwehr Brigade, and from May 4th 1852 the 20th Infantry Brigade in Posen . On March 22, 1853 he was promoted to major general and on June 26, 1856 , he was transferred to Berlin as commander of the 3rd Guard Infantry Brigade . Due to illness, Trotha had to submit his farewell , which was granted to him on March 7, 1857, conferring the character of Lieutenant General with a pension .

He died on November 2, 1859 in Berlin and was buried on November 5, 1859 in the old garrison cemetery.

His regimental commander wrote in his assessment in 1847: “A scientifically educated, capable practical officer of great prudence and agility, who strives to fulfill his professional duties with the greatest zeal and thus acts as a role model for his subordinates. He fills his sphere of activity completely, to which the good military condition of the battalion is praiseworthy testimony. When maneuvering, he shows a lot of caution and correct judgment. With strict moral leadership and well-founded financial circumstances, it is suitable for transport outside of the tour. "

Trotha married on May 24, 1837 in Schönbrunn Agnes von Schindel (1818–1866), a daughter of the court counselor Carl Otto Gustav von Schindel auf Lehne and prelate in Wurzen. He was the brother of Carl Wilhelm Otto August von Schindel . The couple had several children:
