History of origin

Since 1976, Wolfgang Niedecken has been rehearsing with an unnamed leisure combo, which appeared in front of an audience for the first time in July 1977 under its current name BAP in the Mariensaal in Cologne-Nippes . First appearances with the band followed in May 1978, but Niedecken also toured as a soloist with guitar and harmonica. The small Cologne independent label Eigelstein Musikproduktion GmbH offered Niedecken in 1979 to record a debut album. Niedecken insisted that BAP accompany him. That is why they agreed on the LP title "Wolfgang Niedecken's BAP rocks other kölsche Leeder".

Recordings

In the original line-up Wolfgang Niedecken (guitar / vocals / harmonica), Hans Heres (guitar / vocals), Wolfgang Klever (bass guitar), Bernd Odenthal (keyboards), Wolfgang Boecker (drums), Manfred “Schmal” Boecker (percussion / saxophone) and Büdi Siebert (saxophone / flute) as a guest member, the band went to the studio at the cathedral in Cologne in October 1979 and recorded a total of 8 tracks. The LP begins with Das Große Schu-bi-du (a humorous story about German television), Stell Dir Vüür (about the questions of the examinations of conscience for conscientious objectors at the time ), Sinnflut (fantasies about the Deluge ), Liebesleed , Et newest Testament ( a grotesque translation of the New Testament into modern times), Neppes, Ihrfeld un Kreuzberg (about migrants of Turkish origin who often live in the Cologne districts of Cologne-Nippes and Cologne-Ehrenfeld and also in Berlin-Kreuzberg ), an opportunist's nightmare , Hang On Sloopy / Madness (via a newly opened pub).

publication

BAP's debut LP was released in November 1979 by Eigelstein Musikproduktion GmbH (catalog #ES 2007), whose founder Wolfgang Hamm also acted as the producer of the LP. After publication, it reached rank 21 in the German LP charts, where it was noted for 10 weeks. An attached 4-page booklet reproduces the texts in Cologne. On November 28, 1979, BAP presented the LP to the public in the "Annosaal" of the Stollwerck community center in Cologne. Wahnsinn , a Cologne cover version of Troggs hit Wild Thing , developed a regional airplay in early 1980 and became a regional hit.

The CD version of the original vinyl album was released on October 25, 1985 - on March 24, 2006 the album was again released by Capitol / EMI as a double CD in the BAP anniversary edition "digitally remastered & bonus-cd" with bonus material on disc 2.
