Zwesche Salzjebäck un Bier ( Kölsch for "between salty biscuits and beer ") is the fifth studio album by the Cologne rock band BAP . It was released in 1984 by EMI Electrola and was number 1 in the German album charts from June 22 to July 5, 1984 .

background

Like the previous studio album Vun drinne noh drusse , the album was recorded and mixed in March / April 1984 in Hennef (Sieg) in the Rüssmann recording studio. In commercial terms , Zwesche Salzjebäck un Bier was not quite as successful as Vun drinne noh drusse , but this time it jumped from zero to 1 in the German album charts.

The tour for the album began on June 15 and 16, 1984 with two concerts in the Archaeological Park in Xanten . They were recorded by ZDF and later broadcast in a summary. The tour lasted until February 1985 and the audience response was even better than that of 1982/83. Due to a broken finger, bassist Steve Borg had to be replaced by Axel "Fisch" Risch during the tour.

Songs

For the first time after Affjetaut in 1980, all the songs on the album were original compositions, but they differ more from each other in their arrangements than the songs on the previous albums. So BAP went new ways musically and, unlike the previous rock songs or rock ballads, used additional musical instruments. Manfred “Schmal” Boecker plays the saxophone on three wishes . For Diss Naach ess alles drinn the support of the trumpeter Markus Stockhausen (son of Karlheinz Stockhausen ) was brought in, while on Schloof Jung, schloof joot the sitar of guest musician Peter Bursch can be heard. At the end of the broadcast , guitarist Klaus 'Major' Heuser uses the classical acoustic guitar and is accompanied by a string orchestra. Zofall un e janz klei 'bessje Glöck purposely sounds a bit' dirtier 'and should be reminiscent of the Rolling Stones .

As far as the lyrics are concerned, there is a somewhat negative mood on almost all songs, which was due to the changed living conditions of Wolfgang Niedecken from bachelor to married family man. So have the station cinema and three custom free a very apocalyptic undertone, which is about doomsday and resignation, while in Diss Naach ess all splashing around and Sendeschluss is sung by the worries of young people; The title of the album also comes from the song Sendeschschluss : "Drusse rähnt et, Mama schlööf between salty biscuits and beer." (German: "It's raining outside, mom sleeps between salty biscuits and beer."). Jojo and Zofall un e janz klei 'bessje Glöck are about failed existences (whores, late returnees ) and their living conditions. Deshalv spill 'mer he describes the situation in then divided Germany and was the reason for the cancellation of the GDR tour in early 1984. Only the last song on the album Schloof Jung, schloof joot , a personal lullaby for Wolfgang Niedecken's newborn son, flows a certain optimism.
