Karl Hermann Friedrich

Karl Hermann Friedrich (born September 4, 1918 in Buchholz , East Prussia ; † January 28, 1993 in Wachtberg ) was a German Air Force officer, most recently major general of the Bundeswehr and journalist .

Friedrich came from East Prussia . After graduating from a humanistic grammar school, he was drafted into the Reich Labor Service (RAD) in 1937 .

He later joined the Wehrmacht Air Force . He completed his basic training with the 74th Flak Regiment in Cologne. In 1938 he took part in the Fahnenjunker course with the I./Flak Regiment in Iserlohn and completed a weapons training with the Flak Regiment 74 in Cologne. He eventually became a gun leader. In 1938 he was still a recruit trainer with the II./Flak Regiment 14 in Cologne. In 1938/39 he took part in the platoon leader course with the II. And III./Flak Regiment 14 in Cologne and Duisburg.

In 1939 he was at the Air War School in Berlin-Gatow and attended the battery officer course at the Flak Artillery School in Rerik. In 1939/40 he was platoon leader of the 3./Reserve-Flak-Scheinwerferabteilung 149 in Cologne. In 1940/41 he was platoon and battery driver of the 3rd / light flak department 75. In 1941 he completed the battery driver course at the Flak Artillery School II in Bonn. In 1941 he became a teaching group leader for the 2 cm battery chief course and editor of regulations (tactics) in Bonn and Rerik. In 1943 he was a tactics teacher at Air War School 6 in Kitzlingen. In 1944 he was battery chief of the 5./Flak-Lehr-Regiment and deputy operations officer (Ia / op 2) at the General Command of the II. Flak Corps . He was then taken prisoner by the Soviets .

In 1956 he joined the Bundeswehr . He was initially auxiliary officer S 3 at the Rendsburg air defense school. In 1957/58 he was an advisor in the command staff of the Bundeswehr (Fü BV II 2 and 3) in Bonn.

In 1958/59 he took part in the 2nd general staff course (L) at the command academy of the Bundeswehr (FüAkBw) in Hamburg. In 1959/60 he was a consultant in Fü B VII 3 and from 1960 to 1964 in Fü B VII 1 and 7 in Bonn. From 1964 to 1966 he was lecture hall leader and teaching group commander at the FüAkBw.

In 1966 he became sub-department head general defense issues in the command staff of the armed forces (Fü S VII) in Bonn. From 1970 to 1974 he was the commissioner for education and training at the General Inspector of the Bundeswehr . In 1974 he became commander of the Air Force Training Command in Cologne-Wahn. In 1978 he retired from service.

journalism

In 1950/51 he was a trainee and then an editor and publishing manager at the FDP-affiliated Westdeutsche Rundschau (Westdeutsche Presse GmbH) in Wuppertal. From 1979 to 1986 he was editor-in-chief of the military magazine Truppenpraxis .

Friedrich, a Protestant, was married and the father of three children.
