Hans-Georg Atzinger

Hans-Georg Atzinger (born February 6, 1944 in Montabaur ) is a German officer ( retired Brigadier General ).

Atzinger joined the Bundeswehr in 1962 in tank battalion 54 in Wolfhagen and trained as a sergeant. In 1969 he switched to the career of officers (troop service). From 1971 to 1972 he attended Army Officer Schools I in Hanover and III in Munich.

In 1972 he was platoon leader with the 44th Panzer Battalion in Arolsen, later at the Combat Troop School II in Munster and with the 343th Panzer Battalion in Arolsen. After an S2 assignment, he became company commander in 1976 .

From 1980 to 1982 he completed the 23rd General Staff Course (H) at the Command Academy of the Federal Armed Forces (FüAkBw) in Hamburg. In 1982 he became a consultant at the Office for Military Studies (AMK) in Munich.

From 1984 to 1986 he was G3 of Panzer Brigade 34 in Koblenz. In 1986 he became the commander of the 343 tank battalion in Koblenz. From 1988 to 1990 he was a tutor or lecturer for the troop leader for the general staff course at the FüAkBw. In 1990/91 he took over the course management for the general staff course (H).

In 1991/92 he attended the US Army War College in Carlisle, Pennsylvania. From 1992 to 1995 he was in command of the 18 "Holstein" tank brigade in Neumünster.

From 1995 to 1999 he was Deputy Commissioner for Reservist Affairs and Commissioner for Education and Training at the Inspector General of the Bundeswehr (BEAGenInsp) in the BMVg in Bonn. He then became commander of the Federal Armed Forces Command USA and Canada (BwKdo US / CA) in Reston, Virginia. He was retired on January 1, 2004.

Atzinger, a Catholic, is married and has three children. Today he lives mostly in the USA.
