The Wollenbach is a brook 10 km long in the Kraichgau and the Kleiner Odenwald in northern Baden-Württemberg , which flows into the Schwarzbach from the left and south-east in the Helmstadt district of the Helmstadt-Bargen municipality in the Rhein-Neckar district .

geography

course

The Wollenbach arises in the southern area of Hüffenhardt. It initially runs west and takes up some streams from the right and left of the watershed on which Hüffenhardt sits, some with a longer upper course and at the same time a larger catchment area. In a noticeable valley location, he then leaves the municipality and district near the Hüttigsmühle and changes to the Bad Rappenau district in the Heilbronn district . Here it flows through the village of Wollenberg in a north-westerly direction and then changes again to the Rhein-Neckar district and the municipality of Helmstadt-Bargen , where it remains until the mouth.

Here it passes Bargen to the left in a now quite wide floodplain , then to the right to Flinsbach and then reaches the village of Helmstadt, where it flows from the left and southeast into the Schwarzbach , which runs to the southwest here , which is less than 15% longer and less than 25% % more catchment area.

Catchment area

The Wollenbach has a catchment area of 42.3 km², which is naturally located in the northeastern Kraichgau . The uppermost springs and sections of the river in the far east belong to its sub-area Leinbachgäu , those around the middle course to the sub-area Neckarbischofsheimer heights , the lower course and its surroundings to the sub-area Schwarzbachgäu . The greatest heights in the catchment area are up to a little over 350  m above sea level. NHN reached on its eastern edge against the Neckar valley in the northeast, around 300  m above sea level. NHN also on the eastern and southeastern watershed and once almost on the southwest ( Dürres Köpfle in the Wimpfen city forest at 293  m above sea level ).

In the north the watershed runs against the catchment area of the Schwarzbach before the inflow of the Wollenbach itself and its left tributaries there, especially the Asbach . In the northeast the Scheide runs against the Neckar , in the east and southeast the Bad Rappenauer / Neckarmühlbacher Mühlbach competes for a long time and in the southwest the downward left Schwarzbach tributary Krebsbach .

In the catchment area, the open corridor clearly dominates compared to the forests, which are mainly located in some large pieces to the left and right of the central reaches ( Wimpfen city forest to the west, beautiful forest to the north of Wollenberg) and on its northern edge ( large forest to the north-west of Kälbertshausen). The field is mainly plowed, the sparse grassland does not form any long, continuous strips of floodplain, even in valleys.

Localities

In addition to the already mentioned settlements on the river, the Helmstadt hamlet Ingelheimerhof is located in the north of the catchment area; in its northeast the village of Kälbertshausen , which belongs to the municipality of Hüffenhardt, with an Aussiedlerhof Au in its west; between this and the main town the Wüsthausen homestead; west of Hüffenhardt loosely grouped resettler farms in the Herdsweg and Pflugsheide resettlements; in the far south-east of the outskirts of Siegelsbach on this side (independent municipality); on the southern edge of the Bad Rappenau- Obergimperner Hof Wagenbach located on the upper (Wollenberger) Langengraben , as well as its living space, a farming settlement and the Helmhofer forest houses at the upper end of the (Bargener) Langengraben, which already belong to Neckarbischofsheim .

geology

The Wollenbach rises on the border from Unterkeuper to Upper Muschelkalk , from which it only changes on the lower reaches around Flinsbach to the Middle Muschelkalk and between Flinsbach and Helmstadt to the Lower Muschelkalk . To the east of a line, western Kälbertshausen - Schöner Forst - eastern Wollenberg - farmers' settlement lies above the Muschelkalk on the heights of Unterkeuper, on the southern watershed at Siegelsbach and at Wagenbach there are even two small Gipskeuper islands ( Grabfeld formation ). Large parts of the catchment area are overlaid with loess , which on the eastern and southern watershed and in front of the north-western one even occupies coherent areas. Quaternary floodplain fillings begin at the latest with the inflow of the Wagenbach , also accompany the lower course of the Gäulbach, which flows out at Bargen and reach widths of over 300 meters in the area of the village.
