Yumbo is a commune ( municipality ) in the department of Valle del Cauca in Colombia . Due to the high degree of industrialization of the city, Yumbo is nicknamed Capital Industrial de Colombia (industrial capital of Colombia). Yumbo is located directly north of Cali and is part of the unofficial metropolitan area of ​​Cali .

history

The area of ​​Yumbo was inhabited by indigenous peoples long before the arrival of the Spaniards , including the pre-Columbian Yumbo people , whose origins are unknown, but who otherwise lived in the area of ​​today's Ecuador . Yumbo was discovered in 1536 by the Spanish conquistador Miguel López Muñoz . Yumbon received the status of a community in 1864.

Yumbo's main industry is industry , which has settled in the community since the 1940s due to its proximity to Cali. A total of 461 large companies are based in Yumbo.
