Zackary Lamar "Zack" Wright (born February 5, 1985 in Austin , Texas ) is a Bosnian - American basketball player . After studying in his home country, Wright turned professional and first played in the third-class ProB in Germany for the Spot Up Medien Baskets from Braunschweig from 2007 . In 2008 he moved to the first French league LNB Pro A , where he was able to establish himself and took part in the league's all-star game in 2008. With KK Cibona from Zagreb he won the Croatian championship in 2012 .

Career

Wright first studied in Little Rock at the University of Arkansas and played for the Trojans college team in NCAA Division I. Although his performance in the third college season did not consistently deteriorate, instead the number of basket assists doubled and the number of ball wins almost tripled , it was agreed on a separation, so that he continued his studies at the University of Central Missouri in Warrensburg and played for the Mules in the NCAA Division II. With the Mules he reached the national Final Four tournament of Division II for the first time , where they eliminated in the semifinals against the defending champion Warriors of Winona State University .

Although he completed his college career in Division II, Wright tried his hand at being a professional in 2007 and signed a contract with SUM Baskets Braunschweig in the newly formed ProB , which, in addition to the ProA , had replaced the 2nd basketball league as third class . Here he was able to fully convince and was voted player of the year in this league. He then moved to the French first division to Chalon-sur-Saône . At the end of December 2008 he was promptly appointed to the selection of the best foreigners in the French league in the All-Star Game and at the end of the season led the league with the most ball wins per game. For the 2009/10 season he moved to the league competitor and French cup winner MSB in Le Mans . Before the start of the season, they were eliminated in qualifying for the top European division ULEB Euroleague against the German representative Alba Berlin . Since the Berliners were ultimately unable to qualify for the competition, they met again in the intermediate round of the Eurocup 2009/10 , in which the Berliners prevailed as group winners, while MSB and Wright were eliminated as bottom group. In the French championship they reached the final game, which was lost to Cholet Basket . For the 2010/11 season Wright moved to the first division returners CSP Elite from Limoges , whose predecessor club had a glorious past as national champions European Cup winners in 1993. Wright won the dunking competition as part of the 2010 All-Star-Games supporting program. However, the promoted from Limoges was not granted any lasting success and they were relegated from bottom of the table at the end of the season.

For the 2011/12 season Wright moved to the Cretan promoted AGO Rethymnou in Greece . In the final stages of the championship season moved to Croatia to KK Cibona, with whom he won the Croatian championship in 2012. Just at the time of the finals, a “farce” began about a possible contract tie for Wright for the 2012/13 season, as the Greek club Panionios from Athens had already announced Wright's commitment. Wright denied this report. Finally, Wright landed for the 2012/13 season at the Russian club Spartak from Saint Petersburg , where he was voted MVP of the month January 2013 in the VTB-UL.

In 2012 Wright played for Bosnia and Herzegovina in qualifying for the European Basketball Championship, which will take place in Slovenia in 2013. He established himself in the team and was able to convince with 14.6 points per game and 7 rebounds per game. He also led the entire qualification with 7.4 assists per game. Wright was considered an important key player and excellent all-rounder in the Bosnian team, which was the first in their group to qualify for the finals. He is therefore very popular in Bosnia and Herzegovina and is also known by his nickname "Zeko Wrightic". Among other things, he runs a website especially for his Bosnian fans. In 2014 Wright moved to the Greek club Panathinaikos Athens with whom he won the Greek championship .
